Banana is the most popular fruit in Brazil, as a symbol of the tropical countries. It is well know around the world. Although it is not native from Americas (Southern Asia and Indonesia native), it adapted extremely well to the Brazilian climate and soil, becoming one of the main exportation goods of the country.

Banana is highly nutritive. It is rich in sugar and mineral content, especially calcium, phosphorus, iron and vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and C.

Because it is a potassium source, one mineral that contributes to the adequate muscular activity and its calories are mainly in form of fructose and starch (nutrients that are quickly transformed into energy), banana is one of the favorites among great athletes.

It is digest-easy and recommendable for children from 6 months-old. It is also recommended for people taking low-cholesterol diets.

It may be consumed natural, as dissert or used as several dishes: Fruit salads, cakes, pies, shakes, ice cream, porridge, fillings, and sandwiches.
